Recreate Responsibly

Craftsbury is our home. We encourage you to explore our community with respect for everyone who lives, works and plays here. A simple smile and a nod hello are easy ways to show our gratitude for the landscape we share.

When you are out on our trails, please recreate safely and responsibly:

  • Park your car off of traveled roadways when accessing trails. Do not block driveways or agricultural field access points.

  • Please stay on designated trails at all times. The routes may be adjacent to sensitive natural areas. Bike tires and footsteps may damage vegetation, disturb wildlife, and create erosion. In addition, many of Craftsbury trails are available due to the generosity of private landowners who have agreed to trail use on the designated route, not everywhere on their property.

  • Do not litter. Dispose of waste properly.

  • You must pick up after your dog and dispose of the waste. Dogs are not welcome on most ski trails. Visit the Outdoor Center website to learn about which of their ski and bike trails are dog-friendly. Elsewhere dogs must be leashed at all times for their safety and for the safety of other trail users.

  • Please stay off designated ski trails that are not on the Outdoor Center’s property during the non-snow seasons.

  • Cell phone service is limited in many parts of Craftsbury. If you are recreating alone, make sure to let someone know where you are headed and the time you expect to return.

  • Ticks are increasing in numbers in all but the winter months. Long pants and use of insect repellent are recommended.

Specific trail systems may have additional use guidelines. Please plan ahead and visit their websites to learn more.
